Hot to Solve 'Searching for Signal Problem on a DSTV Decoder

Fix 1

Re-boot decoder via front panel,
Power and Music note on single view decoders,
Menu and Down arrow on Dual view,
P- and V+ on PVR simultaneously
If not resolved



Fix 2

Press MENU on the MultiChoice RCU,
Scroll to Advanced Options and Press OK,
Press OK on Dish Installation,
Key in the PIN CODE (9949)
Scroll to Reset to decoder defaults and Press OK,
Press OK to confirm reset
Fix 3

Press MENU on the MultiChoice RCU,
Press 1 then 7,
Press OK to confirm reset
If the picture is not recovered

Possible Fault: Possible faulty decoder or faulty installation
Recommendation: Decoder to be tested before calling a DStv Accredited Installer

Older decoder models

Fix 1

Ensure LNB cable/s are properly secured into the LNB In input/s in the back of the decoder,
Press MENU on the MultiChoice RCU,
Press 6 for Advanced Options,
Press 1 for Dish Installation,
Press the PIN CODE (9949),
Press 1 for LNB Configuration,
Press 1 for LNB 1 Position A,
Ensure LNB settings are correct
LNB Power: ON, LNB Lo Frequency: 9750, LNB Hi Frequency: 10700

When complete, scroll to Accept these Settings and Press OK
Press the Exit button
Press 2
Press 1
Ensure the Network Settings are correct
Answer: Orbital Pos: PAS 7/10, Frequency: 11594, Symbol Rate: 27500, Use NIT: YES, FEC: 5/6

When complete, scroll to Accept these Settings and Press OK,
Press the Exit button
Press OK on Scan All Networks
Fix 2

Check the UHF setting
Press MENU, Scroll to Advanced Options and Press OK
Press OK on Dish Installation
Press the PIN CODE (9949)
Scroll to Reset to decoder defaults and Press OK
Press OK to confirm reset
When scanning complete, readjust UHF Setting if the picture is lost
If picture has not recovered

Possible Fault: Possible faulty decoder or faulty installation
Recommendation: Decoder and smartcard should be taken to MultiChoice for testing, before the DStv Accredited Installer is called.
